Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you ("you", "your") and OverZero AI Inc., a corporation incorporated under the laws of Canada and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario ("OverZero", "we", "us", "our"), governing your use of DocsUnderstood and the website at docsunderstood.com (together, the "Service").

By installing or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

DocsUnderstood is a free browser extension. When you attach a PDF in a supported AI chat assistant (for example ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude), the extension detects sensitive and personal information in that document and lets you review and adjust what is redacted before the file leaves your browser. It then replaces your file with a redacted version, and supplies ready-made prompts you can use to ask the AI chat assistant you already use to explain the redacted document to you.

The detection and redaction run entirely on your own device, inside your browser. The extension does not upload your documents to us, and it does not send your documents to OverZero servers. When you choose to ask an AI chat assistant to explain a document, the redacted text is handled by that assistant under its own terms, not ours; we are not a party to that exchange.

2. Eligibility

The Service is offered only to residents of the United States and Canada who are at least eighteen (18) years of age and able to enter into a binding contract. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements. The Service is not intended for and may not be used by children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

3. No Accounts; Free to Use

The Service is free to use, and it does not require you to create an account, sign in, or give us an email address. You may simply install the extension and use it.

Because the extension is not tied to a personal account, multiple people may share the same device and the same installation. You are responsible for what is done from your device. If you find the Service helpful, you may choose to make an optional donation, as described in Section 7.

4. NOT LEGAL ADVICE — IMPORTANT

THE SERVICE IS NOT A LAW FIRM AND DOES NOT PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE. OVERZERO AI INC. IS NOT YOUR LAWYER, AND NO ATTORNEY-CLIENT, SOLICITOR-CLIENT, OR FIDUCIARY RELATIONSHIP IS CREATED BY YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

THE EXTENSION DETECTS AND REDACTS SENSITIVE AND PERSONAL INFORMATION USING SOFTWARE-BASED HEURISTICS AND AN ON-DEVICE MACHINE-LEARNING MODEL. THIS DETECTION IS NOT PERFECT. IT MAY MISS SENSITIVE INFORMATION, OR IT MAY REDACT TEXT THAT IS NOT SENSITIVE. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REVIEWING WHAT IS REDACTED BEFORE YOU SHARE A DOCUMENT WITH ANY AI CHAT ASSISTANT.

ANY EXPLANATION YOU RECEIVE FROM AN AI CHAT ASSISTANT IS GENERATED BY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE OPERATED BY A THIRD PARTY, NOT BY OVERZERO. AI SYSTEMS CAN AND DO PRODUCE INACCURATE, INCOMPLETE, OR FABRICATED INFORMATION ("HALLUCINATIONS"), AND MAY MISCHARACTERIZE, OMIT, OR MISUNDERSTAND TERMS IN YOUR DOCUMENT.

DO NOT RELY ON THE SERVICE, OR ON ANY AI EXPLANATION OBTAINED THROUGH IT, TO MAKE LEGAL, FINANCIAL, MEDICAL, EMPLOYMENT, IMMIGRATION, TAX, OR OTHER CONSEQUENTIAL DECISIONS. ALWAYS CONSULT A LICENSED LAWYER OR OTHER APPROPRIATE PROFESSIONAL BEFORE SIGNING ANY CONTRACT OR ACTING ON ANY DOCUMENT.

5. Your Documents and Your Warranties

You retain full ownership of any document you open with the Service ("Your Content"). The extension processes Your Content only on your own device, in your browser, to detect and redact sensitive information. OverZero does not receive, host, store, or transmit Your Content, and these Terms grant OverZero no licence in Your Content.

You decide whether to share a redacted document with an AI chat assistant. If you do, that sharing is between you and the assistant's operator under their terms; OverZero is not a party to it.

You represent and warrant that:

  1. you own Your Content or are otherwise entitled to open and process it;
  2. processing Your Content does not violate any contract, court order, confidentiality obligation, or applicable law;
  3. Your Content does not infringe any intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other right of any third party; and
  4. if you choose to share a document with an AI chat assistant, you have obtained any consents required from any third party whose personal information appears in it.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless OverZero and its directors, officers, employees, and contractors from any claim, demand, loss, or damages arising out of a breach of these warranties.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • process material you have no right to process;
  • process material whose content is illegal, infringing, defamatory, or designed to deceive;
  • attempt to reverse-engineer the Service, probe it for vulnerabilities, or interfere with its operation;
  • use the Service to build, train, or benchmark a competing product; or
  • use the Service in any way that violates applicable Canadian or United States law.

Because the Service runs entirely on your own device and we do not operate a per-user account, we generally cannot monitor or control individual use; however, nothing in this Section limits any right or remedy we may have for a breach of these Terms.

7. Free Service; Optional Donations

The Service is free. There is no purchase, subscription, or per-use charge, and we do not ask you for payment information in order to use it.

If you find the Service helpful, you may choose to make a voluntary donation to support its development. Donations are entirely optional and are not a condition of using the Service or of receiving any feature. Donations are processed by Stripe; by donating, you agree to Stripe's terms.

Donations are gifts and are non-refundable. A donation does not purchase any product, service, support, warranty, or other benefit, and it does not change these Terms or create any obligation on our part. We make no promise to provide, maintain, update, or support the Service in exchange for a donation. If you believe a donation was made in error, you may email hello@docsunderstood.com and we may, at our sole discretion, refund it, but we are under no obligation to do so.

8. Service Availability; No Warranties

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. Without limiting the foregoing, we expressly disclaim all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, and any warranty arising out of course of dealing or usage of trade.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components, or that any defect will be corrected. In particular, we do not warrant that the extension will detect or redact all sensitive or personal information in a document. You are responsible for reviewing what is redacted before sharing any document. You use the Service at your own risk.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • Excluded damages. In no event will OverZero or its directors, officers, employees, or contractors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, data, or anticipated savings, however caused and on any theory of liability, arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms, even if OverZero has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
  • Cap on direct damages. OverZero's total cumulative liability arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount, if any, you voluntarily donated to OverZero in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100).
  • Basis of the bargain. You acknowledge that the Service is provided free of charge and that this allocation of risk is a condition of OverZero making it available, and that, but for these limitations, OverZero would not provide the Service.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the smallest extent permitted by law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless OverZero and its directors, officers, employees, and contractors from any third-party claim, demand, loss, liability, damages, judgments, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) Your Content, (b) your use of the Service, (c) your breach of these Terms, or (d) your violation of any law or any third-party right.

11. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, copy, brand names, and logos, is owned by OverZero or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Except for the limited, revocable right to install and use the extension for your personal or internal business purposes, these Terms grant you no rights in the Service.

12. Third-Party Services

The Service interacts with third parties that we do not control. Stripe processes any voluntary donation you choose to make. The AI chat assistants the Service works with — such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude — are operated by other companies; if you choose to share a redacted document with one of them, your use of that assistant is governed by its own terms and privacy policy, not ours. The extension also uses an open-source machine-learning model that runs on your device. How any data you provide is handled is described in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of any third party.

13. Changes to the Service or These Terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service, or any part of it, at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where practicable, post notice on docsunderstood.com. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You and OverZero submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Toronto, Ontario for any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

If you are a consumer resident in the United States, nothing in this Section deprives you of the protection of any mandatory consumer-protection law of the state in which you reside.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately, without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or that your use poses a security, legal, or reputational risk. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including Sections 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, and 16 — will survive.

16. Miscellaneous

  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and OverZero regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
  • Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
  • Notices to you may be given through the Service or, where you have given us an email address (for example, in support correspondence or with a donation), to that address. Notices to us must be sent to hello@docsunderstood.com.
